Curves - leader in women's fitness reflects on 2010 – Part 1

2011 is here and as we ring in the New Year, we are also looking back at the best of 2010.

Today, we write about few success stories that happened during the month of January thru April 2010.

January 2010

1) Curves Founders Fly Doctors to Haiti; Collect Relief Donations Through Sales of T-Shirts

Curves founders Diane and Gary Heavin donated their time, talents and resources to help Haitian earthquake victims. To help out even more, Curves had created a Haitian relief T-shirt and the entire purchase price of the T-shirts was donated to provide food, clothing, shelter and other basic needs.

2) Cancer Patient Strengthens Herself Via Curves Workouts

Pamela Massey joined curves workout after life threw her a curve ball. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which has a very low survival rate. She started exercising and eventually her doctors noticed something. Despite the poison pouring into her system, Pamela Massey was gaining strength and endurance.

3) Teen Curves Member Who Lost 132 Pounds Featured in People Magazine

Seventeen-year-old Curves member Berenice Salceda realized her weight was causing her to miss out on too much in her young life.At 5' 2" and 280 pounds, she decided to take her life and her health into her own hands. The results? She joined Curves and lost an amazing 132 pounds!

4) Curves Manager Helps Young Woman Identify 250-Pound Tumor She Thought Was Excess Weight

A Denver woman who had a massive tumor removed from her body is vowing to work at staying healthy after living through years of embarrassment. Carolina Sifuentes, 19, weighed more than 550 pounds and her stomach was enormous when she first went to a gym to try to do something about her body.

5) Curves Announces New Goal: Make One Million Women Stronger

Curves locations throughout the world joined forces for a new initiative called Stronger Together, an international movement to make one million women stronger and healthier. The program relied heavily on women sharing their success stories and providing confidence and inspiration to others.

According to Curves Founder Diane Heavin, a strong component of Curves' new movement is that if one woman is able to share her strength in wanting to improve her health, she can help another woman gain confidence, become fit, discover focus and avoid disease. "By making your own health a priority, you become a strong link in the chain and have the power to affect those around you," she said.

6) Curves Partners with Quebec's 5/30 Health & Wellness Challenge

Curves partners with ACTI-MENU, the Prevention Division of the Montreal Heart Institute and the Canadian Cancer Society, for the sixth annual 5/30 Health and Wellness Challenge. The initiative aimed to encourage Quebeckers to commit to achieving or maintaining important health-related goals, including getting active for at least 30 minutes a day a minimum of five times a week.

7) Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Applauds "Curves for a Cure" Initiative

Since 2007, Curves clubs across Canada have collected more than $640,000 for cancer research, education, diagnosis, treatment, and to improve the quality of life for those affected by cancer. Eighty-seven more Curves locations participated in fundraising in 2009 than in 2008. This also helped increase the amount of funds collected in 2009 by 29 percent over the previous year.

10) Curves Shows Women How Making Small Changes Can Lead to Surprisingly Big Health Benefits

Thousands of Curves® locations across the country participated in a national prevention and wellness campaign designed to encourage women to take small steps toward living healthier lives.
